Keep in Check Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 October 2026
The short version
Keep in Check is a personal finance app built to be private by default. What you enter is stored on your device. There are no accounts and no servers, so your financial information is never uploaded to us — because there is nowhere for it to go.
- No account, no sign-up, no login.
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising.
- No third-party SDKs that report your activity back to anyone.
- Your data lives on your device, and you can export or erase it at any time.
What the app stores, and where
All of the information you enter is saved locally on your device in a private database. It is not synced or backed up to any server we operate.
- Financial records — transactions, commitments, goals, debts, instalments, budgets, monthly snapshots, tasks and your app preferences — are stored in an on-device database (SQLite).
- Your net income is treated as sensitive and is stored in your device’s secure keychain (Keychain on iOS, Keystore on Android), encrypted at rest.
- If you use the AI advisor, your chat sessions and messages are saved in the same on-device database so your history is available next time.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, location, advertising ID, or usage analytics. There is no Keep in Check account and no server that receives your data. We cannot see what you enter into the app.
When the app uses the internet
The app is designed to work fully offline. The only time it connects to the internet is to download the optional on-device AI advisor model. This is a one-way download of the AI model files from Hugging Face. None of your financial data or personal information is sent during that download, or at any other time.
Once the model is downloaded, the AI advisor runs entirely on your device. Your prompts and conversations are processed locally and never leave your phone.
Attaching files to the advisor
If you attach a CSV or text file in the advisor chat, it is read on your device and never uploaded.
Quick capture (Apple Pay & Back Tap)
If you turn on quick capture, an Apple Pay tap (NFC in-store payment) or a Back Tap shortcut can create a draft expense for you. This happens entirely on your device; nothing about the payment is transmitted off your phone by the app.
Exporting and backing up your data
The app lets you export a backup of your data so you can keep a copy or move to a new device. When you create a backup, the app produces a file and hands it to your device’s share sheet — you choose where it goes (Files, AirDrop, email, and so on).
Once you share that file it is under your control and outside the app. Because it contains your financial information (including your net income) in readable form, keep it somewhere safe.
Separately from the app, if you have turned on iPhone backups (iCloud Backup, or backups to a computer), Apple includes this app’s data in them, as it does for your other apps. Those backups belong to your Apple account and are covered by Apple’s privacy policy. We never receive them. The AI model files are not part of those backups.
Children
Keep in Check is a general-audience budgeting tool and is not directed at children. Because the app does not collect any personal information, it does not knowingly gather data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If our data practices change, we will update this policy and revise the date at the top of this screen. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
